Description
FORTIER 26 - AMERICAN GIRL:
Professionally maintained, inside heated, indoor storage: American Girl has enjoyed the care and keeping of a knowledgeable steward. She's an Eldredge-McInnis design that combines Down East style and the best of a bass boat's characteristics- in what the builder calls “an honest sea boat for fishing and cruising". Fortier uses a closed-cell foam core sandwiched by hand-laid fiberglass in both the hull and deck, including the trunk cabin, of its boats. That’s topped with a skin coat of vinylester resin. The 26’s cockpit is around 16 feet by 9 feet, which gives some 140 square feet of space. The only obstruction is an engine box, which can be used as seating or as an additional surface.
Her cockpit is a substantial selling feature for folks looking to enjoy their time out day boating, picnicking with friends and family, casting a line.. and ultra comfortable: taking up about two-thirds of the boat’s 26-foot, 9-inch length and 10-foot beam. Plus, a full keel protects her running gear and provides a super stable ride.
The steering station is placed to starboard behind a distinctive teak windshield with wind wings. To save cockpit space, the helm and passenger seats were originally designed as "optional" / with flip-down capabilities. This Seller commissioned a custom cabinetry base for the co-pilot seat- which serves to provide ample additional drawer storage for tackle and accessories on deck. Accommodations are complete, though the cabin is necessarily small.

Soundings Marine Magazine Fortier 26 Review article: The Fortier cruises at 19 to 20 knots at 2,800 to 3,000 rpm. “That’s where it sits best and where it rides best,” ... “And I’m getting about two miles to the gallon.”
The Fortier 26 is designed to handle short, choppy seas and has a reputation among anglers as a boat that gets you there and brings you back. Features of the hard-chine hull include a fine entry with a deep forefoot, keel and running gear protection (including a bronze shoe supporting the rudder), and enough weight to keep the boat in the water to reduce pitching and pounding.
ON DECK:
Starting at her bow, American Girl is outfitted with a sturdy bow rail that runs from her bow deck, forward and around her varnished bow pulpit and anchor roller. This stainless steel railing provides a secure handhold as you/ your crew proceed forward to deploy or retrieve your ground tackle and/ or dock/ mooring lines. A stainless keeper tethers your anchor chain centerline, and to port is a stainless housing through which your anchor chain and rode run through, down and into the locker below deck. She's outfitted with 30ft of anchor chain (new in 2022) and 100ft+ of 1/2in nylon rope rode with NEW Vulcan anchor. Just aft of the pulpit is a substantial cleat mounted to the centerline of her bow deck. Underfoot is white non-skid side and bow decks with white smooth waterways. This non-skid is in remarkable shape for the vintage of this vessel.
Teak handrails are mounted to either side of the forward cabin top. Outboard is a beautifully varnished toe rail. Centerline of the cabin top is a large opening hatch- which provides ample natural light and ventilation to the cabin quarters below deck. There are four operating ports in the cabin top sides as well- which provide a great natural cross breeze.
Enclosing her helm deck is a varnished windshield- outfitted with wipers to port and starboard. Aloft is an aluminum arch- spanning the full width of the cockpit/ helm deck. This carries the vessel's radar dome, search light and VHF antenna. Surrounding the helm deck is a full canvas enclosure- with NEW drop-down curtains and isinglass enclosure sections (remaining panels not currently pictured in listing photos are in-progress at a local sail loft and will be aboard shortly and included in the vessel's inventory). As you proceed aft, along her side decks, you're not short on safe hand-holds.. Integrated into the canvas soft top are two sets of additional handles.
