Description
The David Pedrick-designed Freedom 35 is a unique design that maximizes performance, simplifies sail handling, and does not skimp on comfort and good looks. This is accomplished through an innovative freestanding carbon fiber spar, a self-tacking jib, and varnished cherry woodwork down below. Designed to be safe and simple, solidly constructed, and powerful under sail, the Freedom 35 is an exceptional yacht. Acapella features notable upgrades including a new bimini, winter cover, and a Harken reversible electric winch for her main halyard.
Engine:
Yanmar 3GM30F 27 HP diesel
3-blade feathering Max-Prop
55 amp alternator
2-90 amp batteries
Interior:
A forward 6'7" x 5' V-berth with hanging locker to starboard and cabinets to port. Full 6'1" standing headroom and a pocket door add comfort and space savings, and varnished cherry ceilings add warmth and class. The main cabin features an L-shaped settee to port and a full length settee to starboard. Both include storage behind and below, and the port settee can pull out to create an extra double berth. With 6 louvered cabinets and a bulkhead mounted fold-down center table, the boat is optimized for storage and comfort. A nav table with drawers, storage, and electrical panels is aft, athwart the galley.
The galley includes a Force-10 gimbaled propane stove/oven and a large ice box with dual openings, two stainless steel sinks, and storage for dishes and utensils. Aft and to starboard is a full size head with stand up shower stall, wet locker, and pressurized hot water. Aft and to port is a large aft cabin with hanging locker and storage cabinets. Similarly sized as the v-berth, but without the taper, there is plenty of room here to relax and rest. The interior boasts 11 large stainless steel portlights and overhead hatches with screens to provide ample ventilation, adding even more class to a sharp interior design.
Deck:
With no standing rigging to wear out, need tuning, or limit the sail area the mast is optimized for simplicity. All running rigging leads aft to clutches on the cabintop, and self-tailing Harken winches make the work easy. Sails are Haarstick Dacron (2010)-main and jib, both with canvas covers, and a newer drifter has been added to the inventory. At the stem is a large anchor locker and bow roller with a 35# plow anchor and composite chain/nylon rode. The helm is a 44" stainless wheel with engine controls within reach. A Standard/Horizon GPS Plotter and Autohelm wind/depth/speed instrumentation manage the navigation, and a Raymarine ST 6002 autopilot lightens the workload.
The boat includes a custom steel cradle, cockpit cushions, fenders, docklines, and manuals. A two-owner, freshwater only vessel, Acapella awaits her turn at your dock!

Patrick Kelly grew up on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio. After taking a local Learn to Sail class as a young teenager, he was hooked and has been on the water ever since. While attending The Ohio State University, he was a member of the sailing team, competing around the midwest. Boating has been a way of life for Patrick; he participates on several racing crews, and holds a USCG Master License. In addition, he is an FAA licensed commercial pilot.
When not racing, Patrick enjoys cruising around the great lakes with his partner Jennifer and their children. He volunteers his spare time to promote junior sailing programs, and enjoys watching his son sail on the Edgewater Yacht Club Junior Race Team.
Not only is Patrick a member of the RCR Team, he is also a customer, having purchased his boat through RCR a few years ago. "The expertise RCR provided when I made my boat purchase was impressive, and I hope to provide the same level of excellence to my customers."
