History
This Jones 60 foot Chesapeake Bay workboat was built in 2021 at the P.L. Jones boatyard located on Hooper's Island, located on the Eastern Shore in Dorchester County, Maryland. Phil Jones is a renowned boat builder in the Chesapeake region, having decades of boat building and repair experience. Jones arguably builds some of the finest commercial boats on the Bay. This boat was built off of Jones own ocean designed hull and is of modified V design, a planing hull and a flared bow. It has fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) construction with a deep FRP keel molded into the hull for enhanced stability. It was built as a buy boat for the mid-Chesapeake Bay seafood industry, hence the large open deck and huge cargo area. This boat is fully capable of handling massive loads and built for stability in the worst of conditions. Powered by an immaculate Caterpillar C32, 1200 horsepower powerplant, the boat reportedly tops out at 27 knots with a cruise speed of 22, impressive for a 56 gross-tons rated vessel. As with all Jones boats, this vessel is overbuilt from quality products with attention to detail and the experience of a respected boat builder. With fewer than 600 hours, this fine vessel is in its youth, awaiting its next owner and adventure.
Walk Through
Stepping onto the wide, spacious deck of the Jones 60, one immediately notices how truly immense and capable this boat is. Overhead is an overconstructed aluminum canopy, providing ample shade throughout the deck area. The engine compartment cover is located amidships, is of low height construction, is unobtrusive and powered by an electric motor. The engine compartment is large and allows easy access to all areas of the engine. The deck area is capable of holding literally hundreds of bushels of seafood. A large cargo door is located port side amidships and allows for loading and unloading of cargo. Another cargo door is located on the port side entering into the pilothouse area, which also allows for additional cargo. A second pilothouse door is located to starboard and entering that door moving forward a large helm area is positioned to starboard. All controls needed are within arm's reach of the helm. Large opening windows on each side of the pilothouse as well as a large forward windshield allows for easy visibility. A hatchway in the floor allows access to the bilge area, which again, is large and spacious providing enough room for a large size adult to maneuver unencumbered. Forward of the helm area is a V storage area in the bow area.
