About
50 Viking Convertible Sportfish Yacht 2009
Launched in 2009, the Viking 50 Convertible is the epitome of smart design with a hull form that was refined with a flatter deadrise to give it more lift and a more convex shape midships and aft for a softer, dryer ride in head seas. Power-assisted Sea Star steering system, high-speed stainless-steel rudders, and 33” Veem props combine for sportscar-like handling. The Viking 50C is built tournament tough to take on any sea conditions, whether battling beast tunas or cruising with family. As Viking’s tournament demo boat, this proven winner was upgraded by the owner in 2016, including the 1360 hp Common Rail MAN diesel engines, A/C in cockpit mezzanine, Koden side scanning sonar (added in 2019) and much more.
The Koden Side Scanning Sonar differs from Echo Sounders with multiple robust features and is a great asset for fishing, as the “world’s first Broadband searchlight sonar” capable of emitting and receiving ultrasonic waves in various directions via a tilting and revolving transducer that can search 360-degree direction automatically, and tilt angle can be adjusted from +15 to -90 degrees and go down toward sea bottom automatically. Operator has complete flexibility to control the functions and frequency that can be changed on the go in 0.1 kHz increments to target fish species in closer or longer ranges, and to avoid interference from other vessels’ sounders. High speed scan images display clearly in high resolution in 5 quick access modes—Sonar, Off-Center, Bottom Scan, Echo Sounder (like a fish finder), Dual Sonar, and six Conditional Memory keys allow the user to preset and recall current settings—a big time saver.
This 2009 Viking 50C’s salon and a guest stateroom were modified by the owner in 2016. In the salon, the portside forward dinette has been eliminated to accommodate a massive wrap around leather sofa that fills the entire portside of the salon with an adjustable table for dining or cocktails. The large flatscreen TV is mounted on the portside forward bulkhead for comfortable viewing throughout the salon, including the two bar stools at the galley island counter. The upper bunk of the guest stateroom has been replaced with a nicely designed custom rod storage area on the outboard side, above the lower bunk, to create a secure rod locker.
Viking’s interiors are well-known for the excellent workmanship of artisan craftsmen that hand-finish matched wood grains for classic elegance. As always, the fit and finish is impeccable. Inside and out, this Viking 50 Convertible is a stunning, elegant yacht that is tournament battle ready!
