Description
"Downeast or “lobster yacht” styles have not traditionally been known for being either fuel-efficient or performance-oriented, much less both. And while a lot of Downeast boats do have the reputation for being rugged and sturdy, those attributes usually come at the expense of building a boat that’s heavy. But it’s in all of these areas where the 29z’s DNA breaks completely with tradition." ~ Boats.com

Construction
"The MJM Yachts 29z (LOA 32.4’) is built without compromise and is the only boat in its class specifically designed to maximize fuel efficiency, with a leading edge, high-tech epoxy wet pre-preg Kevlar/E-glass/Corecell composite laminate, vacuum-bagged and oven-post-cured. This is a building method perfected over 25 years by Boston BoatWorks in building custom racing yachts, including America’s Cup contenders where cost was no object… winning was everything. It’s more costly, but of significantly higher quality. 29z is stronger and lighter than other boats built with conventional fiberglass or SCRIMP construction, primarily because epoxy has 3x the flexural strength of polyester or vinylester resins. Furthermore, 29z is certified by the International Standards Bureau in Brussels, Belgium as a CE Mark Category B Offshore Power Yacht." MJM 29z Brochure

Mechanical
The 29z is the most fuel efficient 29-footer on the market. Apart from hi-tech construction and good design, a major factor is the Volvo Duo prop (counter rotating props on the same shaft) sterndrive. It is also ideal for shoal water operation; is less subject to damage hitting floating objects; and makes it easier to clear a fouled propeller. Simply hinge the drive up, kneel on the swim platform and reach down to untangle the props. No swimming necessary.
- Volvo D4 4-cylinder 260 HP diesel ~ 918 hours
- Sterndrive
- Counter-rotating Duo props
- Side-Power SP40s bow thruster
- Lenco trim tabs
- Weaver davits with weaver hoist
Fuel Efficiency:
- At 1200 RPM, 7.4 knots - 1 gph and 800 nm range
- At 3000 RPM, 26.6 knots - 3.0 gph and 335 nm range
Interior
6 Feet of headroom in a 29-footer and still a pretty boat is an amazing design feat. People marvel at the living space below, the large head and galley compared to other 29 footers... or even a 38-foot luxury runabout.
- Gloss varnished teak and holly sole
- Storage shelves over twin berths
- Head with Scanvik spigot/shower and sump
- Polished stainless sinks
- Hanging locker
- Wrap around lounge
- Removable teak table

Like most of us at East Coast Yacht Sales, Kristofer has a passion for sailing and the ocean. He spent time as a kid sailing dinghies and cruising the coast of Maine with his family. Kristofer was born in Norway, his father's home country, but moved to Maine at a young age, where his mother is from. Growing up in Brunswick Maine, he spent his summers working at various yacht clubs, boat yards and marinas and spent winters ski racing for Carrabassett Valley Academy.
After graduating from Colorado College in 2000, Kris went to work for Hinckley Yachts. Soon after, Kris restored a 1973 Pearson 36 and sailed down to the Caribbean where he lived aboard and worked in the marina and charter boat industry.
Upon returning to Maine, Kris earned an MBA degree and worked for Harbor Technologies, a startup company in the marine composites industry, while also teaching composite boat building courses at the Maine Advanced Technology Center. In 2012 he had the opportunity to buy Buck's Harbor Marine, a small marina and charter boat business in Brooksville, Maine, which he owned and operated for several years.
In 2021 Kris moved from Blue Hill to Yarmouth, along with his wife and their three children, to join the East Coast Yacht Sales team. He is enthusiastic about all kinds of boats and enjoys helping clients find their perfect boat.
