1987 Hatteras 40 Double Cabin
Hatteras's motor yacht with all Hatteras quality of workmanship and same materials throughout as the larger Hatteras yachts including Imron paint over gel coat. Its functional design includes a place for the most important need of all: privacy.
The 40 Double Cabin is equally at home on the lakes, sounds, rivers, and coastal waters of the world. Her Hatteras all fiberglass hull is well well-conceived from stem to stem: bottom lines sharp at the forefoot for a soft entry, running strakes forward for effective lift and flattened chines for added stability. The graceful flare of the bow helps to provide a dryer ride, while maximizing interior forward space. And, of course, her hull is typically Hatteras. With full-length fiberglass stringers and athwartship stiffeners to provide peace of mind. Aboard, feature after feature will capture the fancy of any family boater seeking something not simply newer or different, but something truly better than what is typical of this class. The 40-motor yacht has the same interior as the 43 but in a Jim Wynne designed modified v 41-foot hull that performs the same with gas as the 5000 pound heavier 43 that needs diesel and requires larger dock. Seven-foot headroom throughout salon and Aft cabin and oversized v-berth. With generous 6'6" of berth length, this guest stateroom offers room to move around, and room for plenty of storage. Under the vee berths there are four full-size drawers, and a full-size hanging locker. Among the many little extra touches, you'll find a full-length mirror behind the door, an automatic light in the hanging locker, An opening hatch provides good light and ventilation. But perhaps the most surprising extra to the bow stateroom is its own head. Complete with stall shower, exhaust fan, lots of space for linen and toiletry storage, and ground fault protected receptacles, this head greatly adds to the overall sense of your well-deserved privacy aboard.
Aft stateroom is full width with walk around queen and en-suite head with stall shower. Forward is full head with glass door shower. Galley down with all appliances and generous cabinets. Salon with sectional with sofa bed, Hilo table with breakfast counter/lunch counter and ice maker. Mechanicals include twin Crusader 454 engines with closed cooling and about 25 hours. Onan 6.5 generator. Navigation with brand new Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 94SV gps chart plotter, Robertson autopilot (needs work), dual vhf radios. Motorola am/FM/cassette stereo system, and wet bar on sundeck.
The owner had a complete overhaul of both engines in 2022 with service records available. See the link to Additional Media below or request that they be emailed.
A 40-foot boat slip is available to new owners at a private marina with fabulous amenities, showers, two swimming pools, Wi-Fi, security cameras, dockside restaurants and bars, 24-hour Fitness Center and more Shuttle service to Downtown Key West.

Based out of Marathon in the Heart of the Florida Keys, Daryl has been sailing all types of boats since he was 6. Yes, that was 51 years ago. He has seen a lot and done a lot. He enjoys sailing, fishing and snorkeling. A pure for love for boats and all things boating, Daryl will bring tremendous amounts of energy and dedication to providing you with the top-notch boat buying or selling that you deserve. He has 4 beautiful granddaughters that he loves with all his might and simply cannot wait for them to get a little bigger so they can all go sailing together. Fun fact - Daryl’s dad, although an excellent captain, was not the best navigator and taught Daryl very early on how to navigate. Right before Daryl took over the duties completely, they were motoring down a narrow canal in south Louisiana with nice houses on both sides. All was going great until all of a sudden, the bow began to rise and rise until it came back down with a mighty splash. Dad had not read his 20-year-old chart (eons before electronic ones) and BAMM they had knocked out the power to dozens or more of expensive homes with families out having their Sunday BBQ’s. Well, they never blinked—they just turned and ran as fast as the little two cylinder would run.
