This is a great opportunity for a charter business or for conversion to a private yacht.
Currently under charter operation in Cartagena, Colombia, this popular reincarnation of a centuries old pirate ship was previously in operation in Boston, Mass, where she welcomed a number of celebrities including hosting NBC's Today Show.
She is a 2000 steel hulled 72' two masted schooner built in the US and while in the US operated under a Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection (COI).
LA FANSTASTICA (previously named FORMIDABLE) is a 72 foot, “Class A” tall ship that has been running successful public and private tours for over a decade. She has been providing captivating interactive cruises for the general public, tourists, educational institutions, youth groups and family events. Also providing charters for corporate clients in the US including Bain Capital, Janus Fund, Boston Scientific and MIT to name a few. As the best pirate ship, visually, LA FANTASTICA provides an environment in which to entertain and educate in an engaging, interactive way by setting sails, telling sea stories, singing sea shanties, demonstrating period weapons and firing the cannons. Portraying maritime life during colonial America and the “Golden Age of Piracy known as “Edu-tainment” and “Education tourism.”
LA FANTASTICA was built by Consolidate Yachts, City Island, NY from the plans of naval architect Thomas Colvin. Mr. Colvin prepared a working set of plans, for construction in steel vs. wood, from the original design by James Rosborough of Nova Scotia. Replicating an 18th century merchant vessel turned privateer based on the design of the Privateer RATTLESNAKE built in 1781 at Plymouth, MA, USA.
LA FANTASTICA was completed in the year 2000, by modern construction standards using cor-ten steel. She had a 49 passenger rated Sub Chapter “T” certification by the USCG. Completing her five year COI May 2018. Annual inspection completed in September 2018.
LA FANTASTICA is a Brigantine with a sparred length of 72’ (52’ on deck), 17.5’ beam, 6.5’ draft and a mast height of 55’. With an air draft of 55’ she is compatible with the bridges of the ICW. The brigantine rig has two masts, fore & main, with two square sails on the fore mast. Her sail configuration consists of three headsails, fore top and fore course (square sails), three stay sails and spanker new in 2018. Powered by a 160hp Yanmar engine with the ability to motor at 8.5 kt and is very maneuverable in close quarters.
She is a clean, well maintained, stable vessel with wide flat decks, seating above and below decks. The main saloon, galley and head are below establishing her as a comfortable venue capable of entertaining corporate clients, family occasions, educational programs, summer camps and the general public on day sails.
Whether you want to continue her tradition as a chartered pirate vessel in the Caribbean, move her back to the States, or turn her into your own private tall ship she is sure to turn heads wherever you go.
There have been a number of upgrades in the past 5 years. See Specifications Section for details.

Mad dogs and Englishmen…….well it’s not always out in the midday sun, but whatever the weather, Larry will be there helping buyers and sellers with their boats. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these brokers from helping boat buyers and sellers regardless of the weather. Larry says “We are all available 7 days a week 12 months of the year, and while many feel the cold New England weather keeps buyers and sellers out of the market, we are always busy”. Larry is one of the company founders and hails from Rhode Island, even though his roots are thousands of miles away in Merry Olde England.
Larry has sailed across the Atlantic from South to North (Las Palmas to Southampton surviving 100' seas and 100 mph winds), From Southampton into the Mediterranean, the French and Spanish Coast, across the Atlantic from East to West (Monaco to New York), and the East Coast of the USA (Maine to Miami) multiple times, as well as racing a variety of sailboats in the CT and RI area.
