Manufacturer Description
The Mainship Pilot 34 has the seakeeping abilities of the lobster boats it has descended from. It has a steep plumb
bow and a gentle rise of the sheer; both of these qualities give the Pilot 34 the ability to cut through head seas, while
the rounded forward hull sections provide a soft entry. Flatter sections aft increase lift for speed and economy, and the
deep full keel with a complete sand shoe gives stability and protection from grounding.
In the cockpit, the Pilot 34 has double-wide helm and companion seats flanking the large hydraulically-assisted
engine access hatch. The side lounges can double as berths with the removable backrests. A tilt-up console means
easy access to electronics and wiring, and there is a built-in insulated cooler box as well as a standard transom door.
Below, the cabin has a large head complete with Corian covered vanity, lots of storage, a shower, and even a VacuFlush head. The teak-trimmed galley offers plenty of storage, ample Corian counter space, a microwave, a 3-burner propane cooktop and oven, and an AC/DC refrigerator with a small freezer. The large dinette easily converts to a double berth and includes plenty of storage. A color TV - VCR is standard and is easily viewed from the private forward stateroom, galley or dinette on its swivel system. Forward in the stateroom, cedar-lined hanging lockers and drawers will swallow gear for the weekend or a month. Extra-long vee berths guarantee a great night's sleep.
Engine
2003 Yanmar 370 6-cylinder diesel with only 321 hours. Fresh water cooled via the heat exchanger. The stainless steel dripless shaft swings a 4-blade bronze propeller with a custom cage. Hydraulic trim tabs. Automatic oil changing system for engine and generator. Access to the very clean engine room is through a large hatch in the pilot house.
Speed
Cruising: 15 knots
Top: 20 knots
Tankage

Water: 70 gallons
Holding: 20 gallons

Two batteries, 12v DC system, shore power with cord, battery charger, inverter, 110v AC GFIs throughout the boat. Master Switch 1-2-Both, generator, alternator, Reverse Air with heater and thermostat, inverter, many cabin lights, navigational lighting with pilot house and cockpit lighting.
Accommodations
In the forward stateroom are two vee berths with a filler cushion and storage below, shelving outboard, and two cedarlined hanging lockers port and starboard each with lighting. To port is a television above the hanging locker on a swivel with an opening to view in the main cabin as well as the stateroom. Above the starboard hanging locker is a louvered door for airflow throughout the entire cabin. A large cabintop hatch with screen and two opening screened ports provide nice natural lighting and ventilation.
In the main cabin, the galley is next to port with a long Corian counter with covers for both the 3-burner propane stove top and stainless steel sink. Outboard storage lockers and shelving made from fine varnished cabinetry for microwave oven, coffee maker, glasses and dishes, etc. Below are many lockers for storage, an AC/DC refrigerator, and propane oven. The enclosed head is located in the aft cabin to port with a Vacuflush toilet, shower, Corian counter, and electric vent. It is a very streamlined design for ease of care with lovely varnished cabinetry and trim.
To starboard in the main cabin is the dining table with wraparound seating that converts to a double berth. Below the pedestaled table is a chart drawer. Shelving is outboard and forward of the seating. On the aft bulkhead are the various control panels for the vessel.
Throughout the cabin with 6'4" headroom, is beautifully constructed and finished teak and cherry woodwork, Everware laminate teak and holly flooring, with light colored Ultraleather covered plush cushions that are very clean and bright.
Two cabintop hatches with screens and four screened ports provide natural light and nice airflow.
Up three steps into the pilot house with the helm to starboard. The windshield consists of three windows with an opening center window and electric wipers for the port and starboard windows. The engine and vessel controls are organized on the helm dash, including the built-in electronics. The port dash area provides a chart layout under plexiglass. Two cushioned bench seats, port and starboard, provide seating for four. In the aft pilothouse are two cushioned bench seats that convert to full-length berths with storage below. Under the port bench is a built-in insulated icebox that drains overboard. The large engine hatch lifts with a hydraulic arm to provide access to the engine room and generator.
A sturdy tan canvas top provides versatility to be in the weather or not with top storage beneath the radar arch.
Isinglass zippered sides and back provide a complete enclosure or are easily removable. A very bright area with 360-
degree views.
Aft of the pilothouse is the well-designed aluminum radar arch that secures the radar dome, antennae, horn, and
lights.
Aft is the cockpit with molded seating and steps with non-skid that is well laid out and efficient to clean. Two faucets for both fresh and salt water and one for city water are to port, and a shore power outlet is located on the starboard side along with television and telephone connections. A port transom door leads to the swim platform with a mounted stainless steel swim ladder.
Side decks with stainless steel outboard rails lead to the fore deck with a Quickset plow anchor pulpit and foot controls for the windlass.

Kathe grew up in the village of Manset in Southwest Harbor, Maine, in and out of her father's and grandfather's boat shops and on the water in various vessels. Sailing at girls' camps and on the family boats were a large part of summers with family and friends. From the late '60s through early '80s, the family summer vacation was going to the Friendship Sloop Races in Friendship Harbor on the family sloop. Plus many sails and power boat picnics on island beaches. Kathe and her husband, Dan, live on Mount Desert Island and have five grown children and several grandchildren. They both are USCG Master Captains and enjoy working and recreating on the water.
