Description
Swallow, a 19' fiberglass Friendship Sloop, was built by New England Yachts in Boston, MA in 1975. She has a recently restored wooden deck assembly with the cabin top and decks fiberglassed and painted. Her enlarged cockpit is terrific for 4-6 passengers, and she would be a good layout for daysails with her small cabin for gear. Friendships are known for their stability and ease of handling, as they were originally built as Maine's first lobster boats in the 1880s.

The deck assembly is wood that has been upgraded the winter of 2022-23 with enlarging the cockpit and refinishing the woodwork and repainting the hull. Tiller steering, large rudder. A new bilge pump and hose is currently being installed.
The cockpit seats 4-6 people.
The spars are varnished fir and consist of the bowsprit, mast, boom, and gaff. There is a main sail but no jib.
Standing rigging is stainless steel shrouds with traditional blocks and deadeyes. Running rigging is traditional 3-strand Dacron.

Kathe grew up in the village of Manset in Southwest Harbor, Maine, in and out of her father's and grandfather's boat shops and on the water in various vessels. Sailing at girls' camps and on the family boats were a large part of summers with family and friends. From the late '60s through early '80s, the family summer vacation was going to the Friendship Sloop Races in Friendship Harbor on the family sloop. Plus many sails and power boat picnics on island beaches. Kathe and her husband, Dan, live on Mount Desert Island and have five grown children and several grandchildren. They both are USCG Master Captains and enjoy working and recreating on the water.
