She has two private staterooms each with its own private Head, good sized berths and storage. The Saloon is spacious and comfortable. She sails like a Tartan: quick and close to the wind and no slacker downwind either. There is little teak to take care of outside but beautiful interior joinery adding a touch of luxury. Accommodations and Walkthru
The Tartan 42 is a CLASSIC, Sparkman & Stephens Performance Cruiser. She has 2 private cabins each with its own Head and a Saloon that will accommodate a couple of extra crew with room to feed and entertain crew & guests.
Starting at the bow is the private forward cabin with a large Vee Berth featuring a thick, comfortable mattress. A large opening hatch, a couple of 12V reading lights & Fan plus 2 classic Deck Prisims provide a light and airy feel. There is dressing seat on starboard side of entry and a hanging locker plus two drawers over a smaller cabinet plus 2 hull shelves for "pocket stuff". For additional privacy there is a separate door to the forward Head on port.
The forward Head follows on aft on port with a commode, sink, shower with seat. There is a large teak cabinet with mirror and a smaller medicine cabinet plus a cabinet over the commode with sliding mirrored doors. An opening port and a florescent light provide light and ventilation.
A large Hanging Locker is across on Starboard from Head Entrance.
The Saloon is the larger cabin with a dropleaf table that will seat crew and guests and can be removed. There is a settee on port with a pilot berth above against the hull and across on starboard another settee that also serves as a berth. There are shelves and cabinets above the starboard berth. The Saloon has 3 overhead lights and 2 reading lights plus natural light from the large opening hatch and 6 opening ports providing great light and ventilation.
The hull-facing Navigation Table is aft of the starboard settee. It features al large desk with good storage under the top and in three drawers plus a broom sized closet. A clock, barometer, VHF Radio and Ship's Electric Panel are all within easy reach. A 12V Fan keeps the air moving.
Across on port is the "U" shaped Galley with a 3-burner Shipmate, gimballed propane stove/oven, a large Adler Barbour Refrig, a H/C pressured faucet, a filtered water and a hand-pump cold water faucets. There is storage everywhere with a dry storage bin, cabinets over the stove and a dinnerware cabinet on the bulkhead. The 42 used the space well. It has great storage.
The Aft Cabin is accessed to starboard of the companionway aft of the Nav Station. The very cleverly designed, private, ensuite head is just inside the entrance. As you enter you see the full sized sink but as you raise the sink it folds and stores against the hull side and you have uncovered a full size commode. It takes seconds to setup. it is so simple. A couple steps beyond the Head is a very comfortable double berth. There is plenty of storage. It is a light and airy cabin with natural light as well as electric lights and opening ports.
The Cockpit is large enough for your sailing crew and guests as well as your evening entertainment and a great place to have an afternoon nap.
I really like this Sparkman and Stephens Yacht

I have been lucky to be near the water all my life. As a kid, I fished and waterskied on Rehoboth Bay, and as a teenager I learned to sail a Sunfish on the Chesapeake off Howell Point. I became a Sea Explorer and was introduced to both sailboat racing and cruising. I later joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary teaching sailing in Wilmington and Newark, Delaware. I have raced and cruised and made yacht deliveries up and down the East Coast. My time on the water has always been very important to me.
After college, a stint in the Air Force, a period of public service, bicycle racing and ownership of the Admore Bike Shop, I joined the marine industry in 1988. Initially, I sold Hunters, Catalinas, and Morgans before moving with my wife, Janet, in 1994 to Rock Hall, Maryland, to join Gratitude Yachting Center and then, in 2013, S&J Yachts. I have been selling yachts for a quarter of a century. With these 25 years of experience, I can help you make the very best yacht selection – matching your plans and dreams to your new sail or power yacht.
