1968 Hatteras 50' _{(15.24 m)} Sport Deck

GOAL

The main goal behind this Hatteras started in 2011, to make a cruising boat that minimizes dependence on a shore cord or generator. Enjoy sitting on anchor/mooring for extended periods without concern for battery charging. It started with large bank of house batteries and an inverter to run the necessary items like a refrigerator, cook top, lights, TV etc. The big power draw of course is the ACs which normally needs the generator or shore power. With some additional upgrades and changes along the way, like the upgraded Victron Inverter/charger and adding solar panels, you have options; 1) run everything minus the AC’s during the day and the generator at night for the AC’s (12-gallon fuel burn) allows you weeks, 2) run everything except the ACs for 108 hours before firing up the Gen, and 3) run everything including the stateroom ACs for 55 hours before starting the gen.  The house batteries also recharge while running the Stbd main engine.

VESSEL WALK-THRU

As you enter from the aft deck through double doors you are greeted with a large, amply appointed salon with the lower helm at the forward end. The salon is on the same level as the aft deck making it feel even bigger, and there are sliding doors to the port and starboard of the lower helm, To starboard of the lower helm and down six steps you enter the galley with full size GE fridge, double stainless-steel sink, convection toaster oven, two-burner cook top, microwave, and dinette. Forward and down two stairs is the forward guest cabin with twin sized bunk beds, dresser, storage, washer/dryer hook ups, and full head with shower.

Aft from the galley its down three steps thru a hallway between the two stand-up, walk-in engine rooms. Aft of the engine rooms and to port is a guest cabin with two twin berths, night table and hanging closet, and to starboard is a guest head with "Jack-and-Jill" walk thru shower shared with the Master. Continuing aft is the master stateroom with walk around queen bed, a large hanging closet, night tables and large dresser with seating area. Although the shower is shared, the Master head has a private access within the master stateroom.

The Flybridge is accessed via a ladder from the aft deck area and has seating for 8-10 guests, access to the “J” davit and tender storage area. Walk around decks provide access to the bow area with seating for at least 6 guests, and access to the anchor and windlass.
