Description
From the Selling Broker:
“Next Chapter” has been at Lake Ray Hubbard since 2016, previously located in Florida. The previous owner kept the vessel for 12 years, and it has been under the current ownership/seller for the past 8 years. Both owners have maintained the vessel well, ensuring regular preventive maintenance.
The boat is currently located in fresh water in Dallas, TX. Although Whitby Boat Works originally advertised the Whitby 42 for coastal cruising, online articles and reviews have proven that it’s a well-built, strong boat capable of handling open blue waters and long-distance passages.
The interior layout includes a stern cabin with an independent wet head, a bow cabin with a shared wet head (accessible from both the saloon and the bow cabin), and a U-shaped galley equipped with a 3-burner stove, double sink, and two refrigerators with three opening hatches. The saloon features an L-shaped settee on the starboard side and a long settee on the port side, both of which can be used as sleeping areas. The foldable table is fixed to the bulkhead, hiding a storage area perfect for miscellaneous or small items.
Storage is a significant feature of the Whitby 42—you’ll find storage options in almost every corner of the vessel, with numerous storage units and opening hatches for your boating and personal items.
As mentioned earlier, the boat is located on Lake Ray Hubbard, an inland lake situated 30 miles northeast of downtown Dallas. If you need to transport the boat to the nearest coastal shore or any other location, we can recommend appropriate and qualified service providers for moving, preparation, and rigging.
Resumen of Ed Lawrence September / October 2005 issue of Good Old Boat magazine:
The Whitby 42, designed by Ted Brewer, is a versatile and customizable 42-foot ketch with various configurations that make it a unique production sailboat. Originally built at Whitby Boat Works in Ontario, Canada, and later in Fort Myers, Florida, the Whitby 42 had a range of options like bowsprits, centerboards, or shallow-draft keels, leading to a variety of models with slight differences in design.
The Whitby 42 is known for its traditional design married with new technology (fiberglass), providing a spacious and seaworthy yacht with a large cockpit, ample belowdeck accommodations, and practical features like a Lehman Ford diesel engine for long-range motoring.
The article also notes the vessel's performance, highlighting that while it’s not a fast or weather-beating sailboat, it offers a comfortable ride, particularly on a broad reach in moderate winds. The boat is appreciated for its traditional aesthetic, spacious living quarters, and versatility, making it a beloved "good old boat."

ACCOMODATIONS
This vessel features two cabins, two heads, and a spacious salon and galley designed for comfort and functionality.
Cockpit and Entry: Upon stepping into the cockpit, you'll find yourself in a generously sized area, comfortably accommodating 8 to 10 people. Moving forward through the companionway, you enter the expansive main salon.
Main Salon: To port, the well-appointed galley seamlessly integrates the chef into the social atmosphere. Adjacent to the galley, the L-shaped settee doubles as a queen berth, offering flexibility in sleeping arrangements. A custom teak bulkhead-mounted dining table, complete with shelved storage, adds both practicality and elegance. The forward head, accessible from both the main salon and the queen-size V-berth, enhances convenience.
Navigation Station and Forward Cabin: To starboard of the companionway lies the navigation station, featuring a built-in seat and a custom teak navigation table. Forward of this, a large single settee/berth accompanies a separate cabin cocktail table. Storage is plentiful, with a closet/pantry forward and a large hanging locker as you enter the V-berth.
Aft Passageway and Master Stateroom: Aft of the navigation station, a well-laid-out chart table with the ship's radios mounted on the bulkhead provides a functional workspace. Continuing aft, you'll find a workbench complete with a vise and additional storage above and below. The passageway leads to the master stateroom, which features an athwartship queen berth with bulk storage beneath, bookshelves, drawers, cabinets, and hanging lockers. The stateroom offers 6'2" standing headroom, (7"x14") ports with covers, a 12VDC fan for ventilation, reading lights, and a 110V outlet. The master stateroom also provides private access to a large head with a vanity, sink, and shower, equipped with a new composting head and a Tempurpedic mattress.
Galley: The galley, located to port of the companionway, ensures that the cook remains part of the social setting. It includes double stainless steel sinks, hot/cold pressure water, a foot-pump for saltwater, a dish drain, a 110V outlet, a 12V fan, and a Hillerange three-burner propane stove with an oven, with an opening hatch above for ventilation. The galley also boasts a 7-cubic-foot refrigerator and a 5-cubic-foot freezer, both featuring Frigoboat system evaporator plates and keel coolers, representing the pinnacle of refrigeration technology. A beautifully crafted panel houses the LP controls, digital controls, and thermostats for both the freezer and refrigerator. Ample drawers, cabinets, and lockers provide abundant storage.
Forward Stateroom: The forward stateroom features a spacious V-berth with bulk storage below, a large shelf and hanging locker, drawers, cabinets on both port and starboard sides, (6"x14") opening portholes, a 22"x22" Bomar overhead hatch, a 110V outlet, a 12V fan for ventilation, and 6'3" standing headroom. Two 12V reading lights provide additional illumination.
This vessel’s interior, adorned with hand-rubbed varnished teak, impeccable cabin sole, and updated custom cabinetry, offers a blend of elegance and practicality, ensuring a luxurious and comfortable experience on board.
