OVERVIEW:
To quote the designers, Steve and Linda Dashew:
“Our goal has always been the same: build a safe, comfortable, long-distance voyager, achieved with maximum reliability and efficiency. The FPB paradigm is the ultimate mix of seagoing capability and comfort with systems engineered for long periods of time cruising off the grid, and a lovely ambiance…resulting in a package that minimizes maintenance and crew requirements.”

BUFFALO NICKEL was designed and built to be owner operated. Guest accommodations include the master stateroom forward with a queen-size berth on the centerline. Head and shower/tub ensuite is located forward of the berth. The two guest cabins are located down and aft from the main cabin. The port-side guest stateroom features a double berth, and the starboard features single over/under bunk beds. Both guest staterooms feature an ensuite head and shower. Overhead LED lighting is dimmable.
LOWER DECK:
OWNER’S STATEROOM
The owner’s stateroom is located forward, accessed from a landing using a short stairway leading down from the port side of the lower helm. Featuring a queen berth on the centerline, clothes closet, ample storage in cabinets port and starboard, an upholstered settee, and 2 marble topped storage cabinets against the forward bulkhead on either side of the entry leading into the head and ensuite shower/tub. The head features a Planus vortex head. An athwartship marble-topped counter with an above-counter porcelain sink and stainless-steel faucet. A mirror with medicine cabinet is mounted above the counter. Separate shower/tub stall to port with Raindrop shower head. There is a Dorade vent located over the owner’s ensuite head. Abundant storage cabinets are located on the starboard side. Overhead LED lighting is dimmable.
The owner’s stateroom is air conditioned/heated, and in addition to 2 Dorade vents, has a large opening hatch over the berth for ventilation which doubles as an emergency escape hatch. There is a 3rd Dorade vent over the Owner’s ensuite head.
FORWARD BASEMENT / SYSTEMS ROOM
Enter the systems room from a door located on the starboard aft bulkhead of the owner’s stateroom. Contains multiple drawer and cabinet storage used for clothing, medical kit, etc. This area contains black boxes and networking components involved with the main helm.
OFFICE
The office is located on the opposite side of the systems room and its adjacent walk-in clothing/storage areas. The office consists of a standing height desk inboard with an Epson Color XP 860 copier/printer/scanner under the desk. Within the desk find a pencil drawer, several pull-out storage drawers, and 2 hanging file drawers. Filling out the office space are multiple electrical/USB outlets, as well as the yacht-systems inverters and main electrical panel outboard.
SUPPLEMENTAL REFRIGERATION SPACE
Located around the backside and aft of the office desk are a large Sundanzer chest refrigerator and a large Sundanzer freezer which supplement the custom Frigoboat cold plate refrigerator and freezer in the galley.
GUEST STATEROOMS
Moving aft and down several steps from the main salon into the guest cabin companionway. To port is guest stateroom #1 featuring a double berth, ample storage, and an ensuite head with separate shower.
Guest stateroom #2 is located on the opposite side of the companionway to starboard. This stateroom offers over/under single berths, ample storage, and an ensuite “wet” head/shower. The Gost Phantom Alarm System control is in the main entryway coming off the aft deck. Enter the main salon from the main entryway located on the starboard side of the aft deck through a water-tight entry door, down a set of 4 steps with the assist of a stainless-steel handrail. The main salon (helm, seating, galley areas) are all serviced by Dometic Chilled Water Air-conditioning System and Webasto diesel heat/engine heat/Dometic reverse-cycle heating; in addition, there are 3 large closable vents for outside air ventilation that comes from large, grated vents located forward of the top deck. The main salon is light and bright with LED dimmable overhead lighting and large glass windows lining the port and starboard side + 3 large windows forward at the helm. All windows are laminated, chemically strengthened, and reinforced with special layers of high-strength plastic elastomeric materials in between. Window coverings are custom electrically controlled roller blinds that can be raised, secured, and hidden into overhead mullions; when used in the down position they offer complete black-out for privacy, or be attenuated/adjusted to allow a chosen degree of visibility. Sonos Play wireless speakers w/Sonos wireless sub-woofer supply sounds to the main salon. The galley floors are vinyl wood-plank. Countertops are Corian. The seating areas are upholstered in fine leather. All the lovely light-wood cabinetry features hand-chosen horizontal grain throughout. The overall ambiance and elegance of the main salon interior (as well as the general overall interior) is credited to the owner’s close relationship with interior designer, Sylvia Bolton.
Galley
From the stairway leading down into the main salon, a U-Shape galley is immediately to port and features commodious worktop/counter space topped in light Corian, with robust stainless-steel fiddles all-around. Color-coordinated low-profile storage cabinets align the top outboard surface of the forward-facing and port side counter.
The Frigoboat cold plate refrigerators and freezer are built-in beneath the forward-facing counter.
The deep sink and faucet are located on the port side, with the Bosch combi microwave/convection oven built-in below. The 4-burner induction cooktop is built into the counter on the aft bulkhead. The Fisher & Paykel integrated built-in dishwasher is under counter aft.
There is plentiful storage in lacquer-finished wood cabinetry; a unique cupboard/locker that is built-in atop the aft bulkhead counter features a custom roll-up door that enables the chef to access needed supplies within that locker while preparing food without having to displace any of the food prep.
The overhead lighting and large windows in the galley make for a bright, open, spacious and social environment for the chef and guests.
2 Sturdy, overhead stainless-steel grab rails are mounted overhead running fore and aft / port and starboard in the main salon, with 1 rail servicing the galley.
L-Shaped Settee/Dining
Located port side forward of the galley. A comfortable leather covered L-shaped settee is featured along with a marble-topped dining table engineered to slide in and out. The windows in the salon are located at “shoulder height”, so anyone seated at the settee can easily look out to enjoy the view.
Main Helm
Located forward on the centerline. A Stidd helm chair is mounted slightly off-center to starboard. 3 large safety-glass windows offer superb visibility. Robust stainless-steel fiddles are mounted across the navigation control counter in front of the captain. These fiddles double as lifting handles for the hinged counter tops, providing full access to all wiring and networking devices underneath. A computer keyboard is located on the navigation counter to the port side of the helm and the extensive list of instrument readouts/controls for Simrad A/P, Airmar depth sounders, Furuno Scanning Searchlight Sonar, Airmar weather station, Naiad stabilizers, Icom and VHF, Maretron Gyro and Furuno Satellite Compasses, etc., are mounted left-to-right and culminate with the Mathers Cruise Command electronic controls to starboard. Three 17” Furuno color multi-touch monitors face the captain with engine graphics, Furuno chartplotter, Furuno radars, and Maretron Ship Systems information. A wood cabinet with drawers is set into the starboard side bulkhead to the captain’s immediate right-hand side. A stairway leading down to the owner’s stateroom is to port; a stainless-steel safety arm/barrier can be extended into place from the helm to prevent guests from inadvertently stepping into the stairwell.
Starboard Settee/ Television/ Washer and Dryer
On the starboard side, opposite the L-shaped settee/dining table is a matching leather-covered settee, easily and comfortably accommodating 3 adults. The LG65’ UHD 4k television and Apple TV are located behind the settee and rises/lowers on an electric lift.
Just aft of this settee is a Corian topped cabinet which contains both the front-loading Asko clothes washer and Asko front-loading clothes dryer.
Aft of the washer and dryer is a large storage cabinet which is directly across from the galley and the bottom of the entryway stairs from the aft deck.
The access to the aft staterooms/engine room is located between the entrance to the galley and the entryway stairs leading down from the aft deck.
Aft Deck
All the exterior decks on BUFFALO NICKEL are aluminum with Treadmaster overlays.
Aft Deck Settee
The aft deck features an aft-facing settee which is covered and protected from the elements. A large window is set into the bulkhead behind the settee which faces into/out from the galley. The doorway leading to the Main Salon is to starboard, the stairway leading to the bridge deck “Matrix Deck” is to port. Three opening ports providing light and ventilation into the guest cabins are in the base of the settee. A dock line locker is built into the portside outboard bulkhead abutting the settee. A steering wheel to be used for emergency purposes is mounted on the bulkhead to starboard of the main salon entry door. Sonos waterproof outdoor speakers service this area.
BBQ Cabinet/Station
Located aft of the settee is the BBQ station featuring a large built-in Kenyon Texan split-lid electric BBQ with non-stick grills. The BBQ station is topped in Corian for easy maintenance and cleaning. There is a sink with hot and cold fresh water/Corian sink cover and plentiful work/food prep space on the countertop. There are three large watertight storage lockers built into the base of the BBQ station. The flopper stoppers are secured on the aft side of the BBQ station off the deck and out of the way.
Masts/Booms
The twin aluminum pipe masts are fixed either side of the aft corners of the BBQ station. Each mast is fitted with 20’ (6.0m) long booms, set up for lifting tenders and for use at anchor utilizing the flopper stoppers. The booms are topped up with permanent 1 x 19 stainless-steel stays. Tender lifting, flopper stopper, and extra halyards are fitted. One Lewmar self-tending manual halyard winch is mounted at the base of each mast. An electric Lewmar captive reel winch is mounted on the aft “work deck” of the bridge above for tender/cargo lifting duties. The booms are secured at rest in a lowered position, perpendicular to the deck in a specially built aluminum boom crutch structure on the centerline aft. There is a Lewmar electric power winch mounted in the base of the boom crutch structure.
An extendable electrical cord with up and down controls is located on the aft deck for the port boom hoist to raise and lower the large tender, and another adjacent plug for the aft power winch.
Tender storage
The 2012 13’ custom Circa Marine aluminum primary tender is deck-mounted to port. The tender is powered by a 2012 Yamaha 2-stroke 40hp outboard and carries a 2012 5hp Yamaha 2- stroke get-home/trolling outboard motor. Tender inventory includes plotter, GPS, fish finder, Garmin Echomap, navigation lights, bilge pump, fuel-oil separator, Scotty electric crab/shrimp pot puller + mount and a Scotty downrigger + mount.
Mounted aft to starboard is a secondary tender: 2023 carbon fiber Offshore Cruising Tender, model 330. This is a 10’8” (3.29m) lightweight (86lbs/39.01kg) model with retractable wheels and a 2023 5hp 4-stroke Mercury outboard.
Swim Platform
A stairway leads down to the swim platform from the aft deck. This is an integral part of the main hull and not an “add on”. There is a vented, locking storage locker here to store all flammable liquids like gasoline, plus oil, coolant, etc. A full-size water-tight door leads from the swim platform into the lazarette.
The Foredeck
All the way forward. All decks on BUFFALO NICKEL are aluminum with Treadmaster overlays. At the apex of the bow find the forward mast. This aluminum structure holds the horns, Airmar sending unit, forward-facing LED light bar, and the aft-facing deck light. All forward-facing lights have glare shields. There is a fairlead built-into the lower quarter of the forward mast for the anchor snubber.
Anchor Windlass/Warping Capstan
The Maxwell VCW4000 anchor windlass with band brake is mounted at the base of the forward mast. A large Lewmar warping capstan is mounted to port of the anchor windlass. There is a stout aluminum Sampson Post located just forward of the anchor winch. The working area around the anchor winch and the working area to starboard is surrounded by a 6” tall aluminum containment structure. Heavy-duty aluminum cleats are welded port and starboard, and there is an anchor warping roller and shim mounted on a short aluminum sprit for the anchor chain and 240lb spade anchor deployment.
A secondary fortress FX-125 69lb anchor is deck mounted on the port side
Deck control for the anchor windlass is an extendable electrical cord with up and down controller that plugs into the inside of the forepeak.
There is a similar extendable electrical cord and controller for the Lewmar warping capstan.
There are 3 Dorade vents in the forward deck as well as a ventilation/escape hatch over the owner’s stateroom.
There is a large access hatch into the forepeak on the starboard of the foredeck. The forepeak is a large stand-up area designed to store lines, fenders and other gear including the Sonar Power lift, bilge pumps, windlass and winch motors, horn compressor, and the forward shore power plug. Forward of the forepeak is a watertight collision locker with a large, hinged aluminum door leading from the forepeak that accesses the chain locker.
Eyebolt attachment points are fitted into the foredeck for cargo/jet ski/other tiedowns if desired.
Lifeline stanchions are heavy (6mm) wall aluminum pipe, 36” (900mm) above deck level. 39mm, with three rows of lifelines along stanchions. Lifelines are uncoated 316 stainless steel 1 x 19 wire, 4mm diameter. Lifeline wire ends utilize machine swaged terminals, with thread attachment bolts on each end. Johnson “over-center” pelican hooks.
Owner’s stateroom:
The owner’s stateroom is located forward. Accessed by a short stairway located port side next to the helm. The queen berth with leather-wrapped bedframe is located on the centerline. The matching leather-wrapped headboard abuts the aft bulkhead which is covered with an artistic custom dyed-leather hide overlay. Matching leather-wrapped nightstands are located either side of berth. LED reading lights either side of berth. Find a near-full height clothes closet and storage cabinets over and under to port, followed by an upholstered settee which is color-coordinated with the marble counter tops. Additional cabinets line the starboard bulkhead, with counter/SS fiddle and bookshelf with additional storage cabinet above. All woodwork is sublime; featuring Sylvia Bolton-inspired horizontal light wood grain, found throughout the yacht.
Two black and cream (with subtle gold accents) custom marble-topped storage cabinets are located against the forward bulkhead at the foot of the master berth on opposite sides of the entry door leading into the ensuite head and shower/tub. The master sole is comprised of a combination of high-end synthetic wood-grain flooring with cream colored carpeting artistically laid around the berth in a free-flowing pattern.
The master stateroom is comfortably air-conditioned and heated by the Webasto diesel heating system. In addition to 2 Dorade vents there is a large opening hatch over the berth for ventilation which doubles as an escape route. Lighting is soft and elegant. All LED overhead lighting is dimmable.
The owner’s ensuite head is located forward in the stateroom. There is a matching marble counter athwartship against the forward bulkhead with an above-counter white porcelain washbasin. Plentiful storage is found under this counter, featuring a mirror with a medicine cabinet over. The enclosed shower/tub stall with Raindrop showerhead is to port. To starboard is the Planus vortex head. Additional storage is found built into the bulkhead over the head. There is a Dorade vent servicing the Owner’s ensuite head.
The owner’s stateroom is a delightful refuge in port or at sea.
BRIDGE DECK:
The Bridge Deck or “Matrix Deck” is accessed by a stairway leading up from the port side of the main deck aft. The secondary helm is located forward just off the centerline to starboard featuring a Stidd helm chair, Mather yacht controls, and a large wide screen color Dell monitor. The bridge deck is enclosed in safety glass on three sides, some of which may be opened for ventilation. The aft-most portion utilizes roll-up clear panels to allow access to the small aft work deck for servicing the Lewmar electric captive power winch or to access the ladder steps to reach the mast-mounted navigational equipment or the 12 solar panel array on the Bridge Deck roof. The aft roll-up clear panels aft can be rolled up entirely to augment ventilation in warm weather. There is a freshwater hose bib for washing down the clear panels on the bridge. The overhead structure of the bridge deck is constructed of a stout aluminum framework and covered with tightly stretched Stamoid. The 12-solar-panel array/system is mounted on the roof of this structure. Flooring is synthetic weave waterproof carpet over aluminum.
An L-shaped serving counter is located on the port side and includes storage cabinets and a sink with folding hot and cold freshwater faucet. Aft and to starboard are raised terrycloth covered cushioned settees/lounging areas. All the way forward on the centerline is a door leading out to the coachroof which triples as a sundeck/entertainment/relaxation area. There is access from the coachroof to the foredeck using a folding ladder. The bridge deck is air-conditioned and heated by the Webasto diesel heating system.
SUN DECK:
Located forward from the bridge deck. Accessed through the bridge deck by a door on the centerline or by a folding ladder from the foredeck. This is an aluminum deck with Treadmaster over. Considered an expansive area for any yacht of this size, it can be utilized for sunbathing, entertainment, relaxation, drone launching etc. The sundeck may also be used for securing cargo as tiedown eyebolt receivers are in the deck.
