Description
Fantasi 44 Pilot House
The West Coast of Sweden has long been a hotbed of boatbuilding activity. Hallberg-Rassy, Najad, Malö, Sweden Yachts, and a smattering of smaller boatbuilding operations in this region have produced cruising sailboats of exceptional quality. Fantasi 44 Pilot House is one of the finest yachts ever to be built in Sweden. She is designed by the famous naval architect Garbiel Heyman and built by the Fantasi shipyard on the west coast of Sweden with emphasis on excellent sailing characteristics, spacious and comfortable accommodation and with the highest quality of craftsmanship.
The Fantasi 44 Pilot House Castellina Sul Mare, built by the lesser known Jacobssons Boatyard, is an excellent showcase of this pedigree. The interior in satin varnished teak is impeccable, her fiberglass work is top notch, and her systems installations are clean and well-engineered. Her design by Gabriel Hyman has won accolades: upon her debut, she won Editor’s Choice at the Southampton Boat Show and David Glenn, then deputy editor of the British magazine Yachting World, described her as “100 percent pure seduction.” Her interior layout features two comfortable staterooms, a large galley, and raised salon with autopilot remote and engine controls that allow her to be operated safely from below decks in inclement weather. Aft cockpit pilothouse with push-button rig, lower helm position and the most stunning lines. Lockers and storage spaces abound, giving the impression that Castellina Sul Mare is a yacht to be lived aboard.
The Fantasi 44 really is one which would simply not be financially viable to build today. Below decks, her comfortable and beautifully appointed teak-finished two cabin, two heads layout offers plentiful living space for a short-handed crew with a large upper saloon, lower dinette and fantastic lower galley. Fantasi 44 is a proper sailboat. The freeboard is lower than usual. The keel has a longish fin with the lead positioned very low, in a pronounced bulb. Therefore, despite the yacht being of moderate displacement, she has turned out just as stiff and powerful as you would expect from a blue water cruiser. The result is a modern yacht with a slender, easily driven hull shape.
Arguably the finest of all the yachts to come out of Sweden. Very rare indeed to the market. A truly special yacht!
