OVERVIEW
Based on a lifetime of sailing knowledge. RUNA was conceptualized by her current and sole owner after spending years on boats and admiring the stunning designs, engineering and seaworthiness of Herreshoff boats. She was bred to be “useful and attractive” and with the help of Stonington Boat Works’ Bill Mills, they were highly successful. Drawing design inspiration from the Herreshoff Fish, 121/2 and Model No. 204, she was built with cedar, oak, copper and bronze in the Herreshoff method; upside down with a station mold at each tapered frame on which the cypress and white cedar planks are placed. She was then lifted off the mold and finished upright. The fastenings were made with either silicon-bronze or copper and the keel is bolted with bronze bolts. The decks and cabin top were constructed with tongue-and-groove cedar and then sheathed in canvas. The cockpit decking is slated teak and benches are cedar. To combat instabilities occasionally found in the Fish, SBW envisioned an ingenious redesign, adding two bronze hanging knees either side of the mast to prevent deck contortion when under pressure. The end result of all of this engineering, daydreaming and research is a beautifully designed, superbly constructed and excellent sailing vessel.

She is knowledgeable and experienced in the quality vessels Stonington Yacht Sales prides itself on representing. After graduating she worked in PR and Marketing in Manhattan before returning to her Connecticut roots as a Marketing professional in the yacht sales industry.
