Description
From a design by Ralph Stanley, Maine boatbuilders Jarvis Newman and Ed Gray built a series of 32-foot fiberglass lobster fishing boats, some of which were taken as bare hulls by other Maine builders with their eyes on yachtsmen rather than lobsters. This Newman 32 was one such, finished out by Ed Gray at his boatyard in Great Cranberry Island, Maine, as a cruising boat for two, or a day boat for eight or more people. Sleeps two in the V-Berth forward, down 3 steps from the companionway is the galley to port, the head is to starboard. Soundings Magazine acknowledged her good looks in a feature article published in the January 2023 issue. Launched in 1981, "Miss Lynn" found her way to the Chesapeake Bay, where the current owners have cherished her for many years.
From the bowsprit anchor carrier to the stern, Miss Lynn is actually 34 feet long. Her major distinctive feature is the pilot house. The helm station is to starboard and includes steering, engine controls and a Simrad chart-plotter. The flybridge above has a helm station and engine controls with seating for 4. Miss Lynn has the standard open pilot house layout and is enclosed with canvas and isinglass. Aft of the pilot house there is a roomy cockpit with a full-width bench for seating four adults. a propane locker to port with another storage locker to starboard. Down three steps forward from the pilot house, the cabin has a galley with sink, refrigerator, 2 burner propane stove with storage above and below the galley. The head compartment with manual toilet is to starboard opposite the galley. A small starboard side closet then the large V-Berth the. The forward bulkhead has an access door to the anchor locker. On the foredeck there is an anchor bow sprit.
With a 50+ years history of building semi-custom boats, Jarvis Newman is one of the pioneer builders of workboats and cruisers that became known as a Downeast style boat. Located in Annapolis, MD, this is a must see - call me today to set up a showing!
