Charleston
S/V "Sophie" is a distinctive and well-maintained blue water Ketch style monohull, cherished by her owner for the past 25 years. Designed by the innovative minds of Garry Hoyt and Ted Hood, the Freedom 40 was conceived with a focus on simplicity and ease of handling. Its shallow draft and ICW-friendly design make it perfect for various coastal cruising adventures or casual weekend sailing. Equipped with air conditioning in every cabin, "Sophie" ensures maximum comfort when dockside. Recent enhancements include 14k in recent upgrades, including a new bootstripe and bottom coat applied in March 2024, and the installation of a new 3-blade propeller, further improving her performance and readiness for the next voyage. Overall, the Freedom 40 Cat-Ketch exemplifies innovative design and practicality, making it a reliable and enjoyable vessel for both seasoned sailors and newcomers alike.

In Charleston, South Carolina, The Multihull Company President and CEO Captain Will Miller assists our clients in any sail training they may require. Will is a seasoned sailor who also owns and operates the successful Charleston Sailing School at Charleston City Marina. From this location, he brokers the sale of multihulls for The Multihull Company and monohulls for 5 Oceans Marine Group. When the need arises, he teaches many of our clients the finer points of catamaran handling and voyaging.
Will grew up in Virginia and learned to sail in the Chesapeake Bay. He has lived in Charleston since 2001 and knows the city well. Throughout his life Will’s parents have owned a variety of sail, ski, and fishing boats in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, the Carolinas, and the Caribbean. Family vacations included chartering in the Virgin Islands, St. Lucia, the Bahamas and Jamaica. Will developed a love of the water at a very young age and chose to pursue a career as a captain after graduating from the College of Charleston in 2005. As a lifelong sailor Captain Will has traveled extensively throughout the waters of the United States and Caribbean. He has been a certified sailing instructor and licensed US Coast Guard Captain since 2006. While attending the College of Charleston Will worked at the Charleston City Marina. Post college graduation he lived and worked in Negril, Jamaica where his family owns and operates a restaurant, fuel dock, fishing, and sailing charters. Shortly after his return to Charleston, Will began working for the sailing school and 5 Oceans Marine Group as an Associate Broker before eventually taking over the helm at TMC from his close friend and confidant, our Founder, Phillip Berman.
As the world’s largest truly global brokerage company specializing in multihulls, The Multihull Company is ready to assist you if you wish to buy or sell any type of yacht in the Carolinas, or anywhere on the East Coast of the United States.
