Description
1981 Irwin 40 Citation
Strength, Durability & Performance
Ted Irwin designed and built the Citation 40 that one could easily compare to the Bill Lapworth
designed Cal 40, or the Bob Perry designed Valiant 40, for their Strength, Durability & Performance.
Ted Irwin truly designed one of the top racer/cruiser class of boats with the Citation 40.
This boat design really brings out the best of the older style boats, both in performance and in
looks. Current owner gets many comments about her good looks.
This Irwin 40 is blue water ready with little work needed for your offshore adventures.
Just stepping on to Vayu, you get the sense of how solidly built she is.
Vayu has been rebuilt over the years by a professional boat builder, marine engineer, and
retired yacht surveyor after he purchased her in 2006. After purchasing another boat he is now
ready to move on and let someone else enjoy the efforts of his labor.
Meticulously maintained by the current owner, he has truly done a remarkable job of upgrading
and maintaining Vayu.
There is an immense amount of storage for one that my want to cross oceans or sail the
Caribbean, or take extended cruises away from civilization. Storage has been greatly increased
over that of your average production boat.
THIS IS A MUST SEE.

From within a few days after I was born I was on a sailboat headed from Seattle across the Straights of Juan de Fuca to Victoria BC
My late father being a very accomplished sailor taught me how to sail starting at the age of three years old.
At the age of three "I can remember" telling me to do this and that and pull on this or let go of that.
Put me in the families sailing dinghy and pushed me off the dock. The rest is history
By the age of 7 I was taking part in Jr. Races and by the age of 10 I was racing Lasers now known as the ILCA and just kept going from there.
I went on to taking part in numerous local buoy and distance races around the Puget Sound Region of Washington State such as the Swiftsure Lightship Classic to the Van Isle 360 and the Southern Straights Regatta. Also I have taken part in some of the most prestigious ocean regattas including Vic Maui, Trans Pac, Sidney to Hobart, Fastnet and a couple of Trans Atlantic Regattas sailing on Cal 40's, Santa Cruz 70's Erikson 32 Olson 30's Grey Beard a custom Ferrocement Yacht out of Vancouver BC.
It doesn't end there. I am also an avid fisherman attempting to deplete the waters of Washington State of their piscatorial inhabitants. To say I am an avid fisherman is an understatement. I took my love of Piscatorial therapy and became a volunteer fishing guide to help my brother and sister first responders recover from mental injuries such as PTSD and Anxiety.
Being a former firefighter and knowing what our First Responders go through every day I also became a First Responder Peer Support Advocate.
Fast forward to August of 2023. I was involved in a serious injury car accident which left me near paralyzed for 3+ months.
Realizing I would never be able to return to Heavy Civil Engineering Construction I have turned to my life Experience of Sailing and Fishing to help other enjoy the excitement of being on the water as I have.
