150 years of boat building.
Bernard Lyman was the co-founder of Lyman Brothers Boat Builders and Lyman Boat Works. Lyman founded the company with his brother, Herman Lyman, in 1875.
He designed and built the clinker boat building built boat, the Lyman.
The Lyman boat has a reputation for, as Tom Koroknay says, "mastering the rugged chop of Lake Erie.
However, the Lyman name would ultimately span far beyond Ohio and Lake Erie. In the 1950s, Lyman introduced multiple product lines that were marketed toward fishermen, jet-setters, and everyone in-between. The company was aggressively marketed, and their naval architecture was essentially similar in design to Great Lakes builders such as Chris Craft.
Sleek, modern wood lines, and attention to detail defined the brand, along with the "dual-pane" glazing on most models' front bow/cockpit. Models such as the "Islander" and "Runabout" (between 17' and 22' in length) were most popular. Although they are rare to find today, they still have a sort-of cult following, and are widely regarded as pioneers in the design of modern sport boats for usage in the Great Lakes, and other places around the world.

Sean started his boating and yachting life in the Puget Sound region of Washington State, at the ripe old age of just a few weeks old. Shortly after he was born and released from the hospital he was on a Columbia 26 headed to Victoria BC up Puget Sound through Admiralty Inlet across the Straights of Juan de Fuca in the middle of February.
By the time he turned 3, in the summer of 1969 his late father decided it was time to teach him sailing and put him in the family sailing dinghy and after some brief instructions, pushed him off the dock solo, although under very close supervision of his father it was very much to great worry and concern to Sean's mother who just about had a panic attack.
The rest is history.
Having grown up in a sailing and yachting family, mentored by his father, a very competitive racer, and some very well known Olympic Class sailors, Sean himself became a very accomplished racer taking part in and winning numerous local & regional regattas, including a number of North American Championships in Lasers (ILCA), International 14's, 5o5's Stars, Etchells and Thunderbirds. Sean has also taken part in some very prestigious international regattas as well, including Vic-Maui, Trans-Pac, Sydney to Hobart and the Fastnet Regatta along with several Trans-Atlantic Regattas and numerous Trans-oceanic deliveries.
His story does not end there.
Fishing is another passion of Sean’s.
As a former 5 year veteran volunteer firefighter, Sean has a deep understanding of the mental stresses & injuries our first responders go through and suffer from every day. As such Sean dedicated much of his free time as a volunteer fishing guide in Washington State providing the First Responder Community with piscatorial therapy helping his fellow brothers and sisters navigate the complex road to recovery.
Sean moved to Eastern North Carolina in the summer of 2024 and in the spring of 2025 Sean proudly started his path as a broker with us here at Curtis Stokes & Associates.
Sean has an extensive knowledge of both sailing and fishing boats and yachts.
Along with his dedication to providing Concierge Level Service to his clients and eagerness to help others enjoy the same thrill of boating and yachting as he does, Sean is quickly becoming a valuable asset to the CSA Team North Carolina.
As part of CSA Team North Carolina, Sean is located in the Kinston area, and proudly serves the Eastern NC & Southeastern Virginia areas, to include the outer banks from N. Topsail Beach to the Southern Chesapeake Bay area.
For more information, Sean can be reached 7 days a week.
