Preston was born and raised around the waters of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. He started boating with his father at 6 years old, which ignited his spark and passion for boats and being on the water. He traveled the world for surfing and water activities during his teenage years. He also spent a few years in Melbourne and Juno Beach, Florida. He attended East Coast University for business management. Afterwards he started a career in marketing and sales with Smith Optics. This furthered his passion for the ocean and all the activities it offers. He now resides in Wilmington with his wife and three daughters.
