Mike holds a current UK, MCA Master of Yachts 3000 tonne Captain’s license and has logged over 220,000 miles during his 22-year career working full time aboard private and charter yachts worldwide. He has crossed oceans in yachts ranging from a replica of Joshua Slocum’s 36-foot “Spray” using only a compass, sextant and lead line, to a state-of-the-art 172-foot, Italian-built Perini Navi.
From early on Mike has always loved anything aquatic, learning to sail as a child in BC, working as a river rafting guide, life guard and diver for the Vancouver Aquarium. At the age of 20 he earned his Professional Deep Sea Diver ticket from the Diver’s Institute of Technology in Seattle and worked aboard commercial diving vessels around Vancouver Island and the BC Coast.
Mike has a solid engineering background and trained at BCIT in industrial electronics, hydraulics and refrigeration. He has led several major refits on large yachts in Florida, the Caribbean and Mediterranean.
During his off time his passion has been cruising and exploring, having owned several sailboats from 25 feet to a 45 feet catamaran, cruising the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Whether you are looking to explore the islands locally, go blue water cruising or are considering purchasing a large yacht to set up for charter worldwide, Mike will work with you to discuss equipment, itineraries and cruising seasons, budgets, refits, offshore registration and ultimately help you find the right boat for your adventures.
