Adventure, a 2011 Beneteau First 40, a well proven performance cruiser that combines strong sailing capabilities with seagoing comfort and practicality. The First 40 was developed by Beneteau with input from Farr Yacht Design and represents a serious cruiser racer platform well respected in the global sailing community. This model’s hull and rig design allows for confident passages offshore while still delivering rewarding sailing performance under a variety of conditions.
Adventure carries a history of hard use and regular maintenance. Originally commissioned and operated by Sunsail UK as a charter and training yacht, she experienced intensive service and underwent a number of repairs prior to her current ownership. Since acquisition, the current owners have undertaken extensive equipment repairs and upgrades and invested in ongoing maintenance to ensure the vessel is fully functional and reliable.
Since 2021, Adventure has seen serious offshore cruising service. She was actively sailed in the Baltic Sea during 2022 and subsequently prepared for an Atlantic crossing departure in late 2023. That crossing was successfully completed in January 2024 and she has since been lived aboard while cruising the Caribbean. These passages demonstrate her capability and resilience as a blue water capable vessel when properly maintained and handled. With conscientious care throughout cruising and refit history, Adventure delivers a reliable platform ready for her next owner’s adventures.
The interior layout of Adventure is practical and versatile. She features two aft cabins, each with a double berth, providing good accommodation for family cruising or shared ownership arrangements. The forward cabin also offers a comfortable double berth and ample storage space, completing the three cabin arrangement characteristic of the First 40 class. A generous saloon easily seats up to eight people around a large, foldable table and provides a natural focal point for social life onboard. To starboard there is a dedicated navigation station, and to port a well appointed galley suitable for extended cruising. A single head with shower forward serves the interior. One aft cabin is without a mattress; a mattress cover is aboard.
Above decks the cockpit is exceptionally large and functional, with substantial space for crew and storage. A major storage compartment under the cockpit sole adds practical stowage for cruising equipment, lines and safety gear. The ergonomics of the cockpit suit both comfortable cruising and competitive sailing.
Adventure is equipped with a comprehensive Garmin navigation suite that brings modern reliability to her systems. The suite includes a Garmin GPSMAP 923 in the cockpit installed in 2023, a Garmin GMR-18 radar also from 2023, a Garmin Reactor autopilot with linear drive installed in 2022, four Garmin GMI-10 repeater instruments in the cockpit, and a Garmin AIS-400 transponder.
She also features a Hydrovane windvane steering, Lifepo4 batteries, solar charging and Starlink mini.
This robust electronics package supports safe coastal and offshore navigation and provides situational awareness for extended passages.
Built with performance in mind, this Farr hull carries a moderately light displacement and sail area tuned for capable sailing in both light and stronger winds. Under sail she is well balanced, points effectively upwind and rewards a competent crew with responsive handling.
Adventure is not a pristine showroom example but rather a reliable and seaworthy vessel with a documented history, solid cruising experience and a well thought out equipment package. She represents excellent value for an experienced yachtsman seeking a proven offshore capable platform that is ready to continue cruising or head into new waters.

Owners Comments and Boat History
I admit that I was initially drawn to this boat by her sleek Bruce Farr design. Later, I discovered that she also delivers excellent sailing performance. We are usually the fastest boat around, even though we are cruisers rather than racers. The beauty of this boat lies in her balance under sail. The large wheel makes her extremely light on the helm, and sitting next to the wheel she can be sailed with just two fingers. With six winches and a simple deck layout, she is easy to handle either single-handed or by a couple.
Her seakeeping qualities are surprisingly pleasant. We have sailed through some challenging weather and always felt safe aboard. The Yanmar engine is very reliable and not overly noisy. Manoeuvring under power is excellent thanks to the saildrive — she turns almost on her central axis, and whether moving forward or astern, she responds exactly as expected.
The cockpit is huge and offers ample space for both sailing and social gatherings with fellow sailors. The large bimini provides excellent protection from sun and rain, adding greatly to onboard comfort. A very large storage compartment beneath the cockpit floor easily accommodates a dinghy, liferaft, and much more.
The accommodation is surprisingly spacious and practical. The interior is finished in light oak, is very well ventilated, and features a large saloon table where six people can comfortably dine together. Well-placed handholds provide security while underway. All berths are true double-bunk size. The navigation table is generously sized and includes additional storage space.
This First 40 is a former charter and training yacht from Sunsail UK, which I purchased in 2021. During her time with Sunsail, the boat was intensively used and underwent several repairs. As a result, there are some hairline cracks visible on the deck and cockpit, and the interior woodwork shows signs of use. All of these items were fully documented in the survey report conducted at the time of purchase. Since then, we have carried out many repairs and upgrades to equipment throughout the boat.
We sailed the Baltic Sea in 2022 and departed for our Atlantic crossing in 2023. The crossing was completed successfully in January 2024, and we have been living aboard since June 2023. She has been well maintained throughout and has proven herself across the Atlantic and in the Caribbean. You can expect a fully functional and reliable boat.
