Description
The Cape Dory 330 is a classic fiberglass sailboat designed by renowned naval architect Carl Alberg and built by Cape Dory Yachts in the United States. Produced from 1985 to 1988, only 27 units were constructed, making it a relatively rare model. It features a long (full) keel for stability and tracking, and a cutter rig configuration, which allows for versatile sail handling—ideal for offshore cruising or heavy-weather sailing. The 330 is essentially an updated version of the earlier Cape Dory 33, with refinements like a teak companionway ladder, increased water capacity (85 gallons vs. 74 in the 33), and a slightly larger sail area. It's known for its seaworthiness, traditional lines, and comfortable interior layout, including a V-berth forward, head with shower, and settees that convert to berths.

Full Details
Cape Dory Yachts (USA)
Cape Dory Yachts was a Massachusetts-based manufacturer of high-quality fiberglass sailboats, powerboats, and trawlers, celebrated for its robust, seaworthy designs emphasizing traditional aesthetics, full keels, and superior handling in heavy weather. Founded by Andrew Vavolotis, the company produced over 5,000 vessels from 1963 to 1992, ranging from compact dinghies to 45-foot cruisers, with many models designed by naval architect Carl Alberg. Known for simple lines, narrow beams, and durable hand-laid construction, Cape Dory boats became icons of New England yachting, blending performance with comfort for coastal and offshore sailing. A subsidiary, Intrepid Yachts, handled some designs, but the brand's legacy endures through active owner communities and semi-custom revivals using original molds.
Vessel designer...the famour Carl Alberg
Carl Alberg (1900-1986) was a Swedish-American yacht designer whose traditional, seaworthy designs became synonymous with quality cruising boats. Immigrating to the US in 1929, Alberg worked for John Alden before establishing his own practice. His breakthrough came with the Pearson Triton (1959), which became one of the most successful production boats ever built. Alberg's designs emphasized traditional proportions, full keels, moderate displacement, and exceptional seaworthiness. Notable designs include the Cape Dory series, Pearson Ariel and Vanguard, and Alberg 35. His boats were characterized by comfortable motion, predictable handling, and ability to carry their designed loads safely. Alberg's influence on American cruising boat design was profound, establishing standards for seaworthy, comfortable family cruisers.
