The 2000 Santa Cruz Coastal Flyer "Alexis" is a very impressive yacht! Back in 2000, only Santa Cruz Yachts would attack the personal powerboat market using a classic Dave Gerr design. The Coastal Flyer has the Dave Gerr Vee-Hull bottom design, with rounded shape sections, chine tunnels and a great rough-water ride.
Performance and handling notwithstanding, boats of strong styling character generally require buyers who appreciate the statement they make. Those who fall in love with the 40' Coastal Flyer will see in her reverse sheer and tumblehome stern a more modern “Commuter” design with unmistakable resemblance to the mahogany runabouts of the 1940s and 1950s. At the bow there is a forward cockpit which can comfortably seat two adults in elegant “Commuter” yacht style.
The wonderful cast stainless steel stem head alone is enough to make some people swoon. That shiny crown tops a gracefully curved stem, which differs from most of the “Commuter’ yachts as they had a plumb, or nearly plumb, stem. This curved stem also complements the reverse sheer. Reverse sheer is more than a styling exercise-it increases interior volume and reduces windage topside.
This boat has a maximum headroom below of 6'4". To get this height in boat with a straight or sweeping sheer would make the trunk cabin too high. The higher the super structure, the more windage the boat has. The lower section of the superstructure echoes the curvature of the sheer, then dips at both ends to terminate at the after and forward cockpits. The curves are slick and don't fight one another. The line described by the frame of the side windows flows elegantly, to meet the coaming.
The accommodations appear to be cozy, and comfortable enough for two adults on a week-long cruise. A settee, across from the double berth, makes up into a single berth, for when two single berths are required. The L-shape dinette/riding station can seat four, and it's raised a step to give seated guests an excellent view
Powered by a 440 hp Yanmar diesel, the Coastal Flyer can reach a top speed of 18 to 20 knots and provides a decent cruising speed of 16 knots. The combination of the jet drive and the Yanmar's inherent smoothness hint at quiet times under way.

Additional Information
Additional Information;
The 41' Santa Cruz Coastal Flyer is a high-end "Commuter" style powerboat built by Santa Cruz Yachts in the early 2000s. Known for their high-performance sailing yachts, Santa Cruz constructed only four of these powerboats, making them a very unique and rare vessel, seldom seen on the market.
- Commuter style: With a classic, elegant design, the Coastal Flyer has a distinctive "picnic boat" aesthetic.
- Gerr-Vee hull: The boat features a proprietary hull form designed by Dave Gerr of Gerr Marine, which is modified for jet-drive propulsion, and designed for a soft ride and excellent directional stability, particularly in a following sea. It has a fine entry, that transitions to a more shallow V-shape amidships, then flattens to about 24 degrees on the run to the transom. The sections soften from a sharp V-shape to an inverted bell shape, and the chines become shallow arc shaped.
- Jet drive propulsion: Powered by a jet-drive system, the Coastal Flyer has a shallow draft of just 1.5 feet, allowing it to navigate waters that would be inaccessible to similarly sized boats with traditional running gear.
- High-end construction: The hull is made with lightweight yet durable E-glass and Kevlar, a technique borrowed from Santa Cruz's sailing yacht designs.
- High-quality interior: The boat features a spacious interior with high-quality finish work, designed for comfortable cruising for a couple on long-distance trips.
- Performance: Cruising speed is around 16 knots, with a maximum speed of 20 knots.
- High value: One of the 4 boats built, "Alexis" originally cost $1.3 million to build.
