With over three decades of experience in the yachting industry and more than 20 years at Merle Wood & Associates, John Cohen is a highly respected luxury yacht broker who is regarded by

clients and peers alike as one of the most astute professionals in his field. He has traveled the globe to inspect, build, purchase, and sell luxury yachts of all sizes and types.

John was born and raised on the shores of Manhasset Bay, just a stone’s throw from Long Island Sound, a north shore yachting hot spot. In addition to having operated both power and sailing

megayachts, he has a wealth of experience in yacht construction, refit, management, charter, and, of course, sales. As director of sales and charter for Merle Wood & Associates, his firsthand

knowledge in all aspects of yachting has enabled him to build and maintain a strong clientele.

In the course of his work, he often travels to places like Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, and Australia. He has been fortunate enough to build a worldwide clientele and referral network based on his clients’ trust. Due to his expertise in yachting, he has actually sold a number of yachts based solely on his recommendation - that is, “sight unseen” for the buyer acting entirely on John’s representation and guidance.

According to John, the practices taught in business school don’t always apply. He says the secret to his success is that he works hard to sell every yacht. “As they say, you’re only as good as your last sale,” John says. “While every deal has its challenges, it is my experience and performance that instills the confidence my clients have in me. My sales record speaks for itself.”
