Description
Ondine is a fiberglass fractional rig 1967 Luders 16 with many recent upgrades by her current owner. Her hull was awlgripped a dark blue and is in very good condition. The boat was customized by the Elk Boatyard in Bar Harbor with varnished mahogany cabinsides and coamings, reminiscent of the original wooden boats. She is a very attractive sloop that races with the Northeast Harbor Fleet off Mount Desert Island, Maine. In fact, if a new owner wants to join the Fleet and race, the sale will include a mooring at the Fleet, which is quite valuable as the waiting line is significent. The new (2025) mast and standing rigging is valued at $8,000 and the newer sails are in excellent condition which include a recent main and genoa, a spinnaker as well as an older set of sails. Ondine offers a sailor a Luders in excellent condition regarding all systems for enjoyable racing and day sailing!

CONSTRUCTION
Although the original Luders were wooden-built hulls, this fiberglass version is a sturdy one-piece hull with a fiberglass deck assembly with molded-in nonskid and varnished mahogany cabinsides and coamings. Her lead ballast keel is 1,600 pounds and bolted onto the hull. Added with the 2,975-lb hull and deck, the lead keel adds sailing stability. Further, her fin keel gives the sloop terrific quick steerage.
Below the cabintop is a small cuddy cabin with sitting headroom (4 ft). There is an option of adding 2 berths to provide spartan overnight accommodations.
SAILS AND RIGGING
The mast was new in 2025 along with the stainless steel standing rigging.

Working Jib: 61 sq ft
Genoa: 108 sq ft
Spinnaker: 298 sq ft sq ft spinnaker. Her carbon fiber spinnaker pole is new.
The varnished tiller is oak and in good condition. Includes an attached extension.
The cam cleats are in very good condition and labeled along the aft cabintop for racing; 2 Lewmar 7CT winches.

ACCOMMODATIONS AND DESIGN
In the early 1930s Alfred Edward (Bill) Luders set out to scale down the then-modern International Rule Sloop, and the result is a compact 26 footer with a 16'4" waterline, a beam of 5'9" and a draft of 4'0". The narrow beam gives the the boat a distinctive profile rather than a voluminous one. A total of about 300 boats were built between 1933 - 1979 with fifteen built in 1934 to race at Fishers Island, New York. These boats are currently quite popular and have increased in value.

Kathe grew up Southwest Harbor, Maine, in and out of her father's and grandfather's boat shops and on the water in various vessels. Sailing on inland lakes at camps and on the family boats out of Southwest Harbor were a large part of summers with family and friends. While growing up, the family summer vacation was going to the Friendship Sloop Races in Friendship Harbor on their 1904 Friendship Sloop, Dictator, along with many local sails with family and friends. Kathe, her husband, Dan, live on Mount Desert Island, and they both are USCG Master Captains enjoying sailing their 1965 Friendship Sloop, Old Baldy, and cruising the nearby harbors and islands aboard their Bunker & Ellis lobster pleasure boat, Susan Margaret.
