Description
This 1979 Ta Shing Baba 35 combines Robert Perry’s renowned bluewater design with an extensive list of cruising upgrades and an unusually well-documented history.
A major refit beginning in 2021 addressed many of the costly systems associated with preparing a classic cruising yacht for offshore use, including replacement standing and running rigging, new chainplates, through-hulls, dripless shaft seal, bilge pumps, upgraded electrical systems and a KiwiGrip deck following removal of the original teak. Continued investment through 2025 includes a 40 GPH SeaWater Pro watermaker, new stainless-steel fuel tank, new refrigeration, 900W of solar, Starlink, Raymarine Axiom 9 navigation, upgraded ground tackle and new bottom paint.
Her sail inventory includes a newer mainsail with sail pack and lazy jacks, staysail and an almost-new asymmetrical spinnaker. A Beta 38 diesel provides auxiliary power and was realigned in 2025.
Below deck, she presents exceptionally well for her age, with beautiful traditional Ta Shing joinery, an upgraded headliner, reupholstered saloon cushions and a berth mattress replaced in 2025.
Perhaps most impressive is her documentation, including original Ta Shing paperwork and specifications, manuals, maintenance records, cruising history and a detailed vessel log.
Currently stored on the hard in the Dominican Republic, she represents an opportunity to acquire a proven Baba 35 where substantial investment in the major cruising systems has already been made.

She is a beautiful and distinctive yacht, one of only 72 Baba 35s built by the master craftsmen at Ta Shing Yacht Building. Designed by respected naval architect Robert Perry, the Baba 35 has developed a loyal following and is a design known for serious offshore cruising and circumnavigation.
When we purchased her, she had only 20+ engine hours. Her teak deck had been removed and the deck glassed, with no blisters anywhere.
We were initially drawn to her classic appearance, butterfly hatch, beautiful cockpit coaming and exceptional interior craftsmanship, which sets her apart from typical production boats.
Once we began cruising her, we came to appreciate just how sturdy and capable she is. She handles exceptionally well, even in rough conditions, and has always made us feel safe and comfortable aboard.
